RoboCupJunior OnStage invites teams to develop a creative stage performance using autonomous robots that they have designed, built and programmed. The objective is to create a robotic performance between 1 to 2 minutes that uses technology to engage an audience. The challenge is intended to be open-ended. This includes a whole range of possible performances, for example dance, storytelling, theatre or an art installation. The performance may involve music but this is optional. Teams are encouraged to be as creative, innovative and entertaining, in both the design of the robots and in the design of the overall performance.
An autonomous robot should follow a black line while overcoming different problems in a modular arena formed by tiles with different patterns. The floor is white in color and the tiles are on different levels connected with ramps. Teams are not allowed to give their robot any advance information about the field as the robot is supposed to recognize the field by itself.
The land is simply too dangerous for humans to reach the victims. Your team has been given a difficult task. The robot must be able to carry out the rescue mission in a fully autonomous mode with no human assistance. The robot must be durable and intelligent enough to navigate through treacherous terrain with hills, uneven land and rubble without getting stuck. The robot must search for victims, dispense rescue kits, and signal the position of the victims so the humans can take over.
Teams have to develop and program appropriate strategies for both real and virtual autonomous robots to navigate through the real and virtual worlds to collect objects while competing with another team’s robot that is searching and collecting objects in the same real and virtual worlds. In the RoboCupJunior soccer league, a team of two autonomous mobile robots competes against another team in matches. 2-on-2 teams of autonomous mobile robots play in a highly dynamic environment, tracking a special light-emitting or passive ball in an enclosed, landmarked field. Teams must look for a ball, trying to score into a color-coded goal in a special field built in a way that resembles the actual field for human soccer. Robots are required to have full autonomy from humans and technical design, and ingenious programming by their developers. Participants of this challenge are required to give the best of their abilities in programming, robotics, electronics and mechatronics, but also to contribute on teamwork and knowledge sharing with other participants, regardless of culture, age or result in the competition. All are expected to compete, learn, have fun and grow.
